Global Civis Club

In an effort to "spread the word" of Global Civis we have chosen to allow the creation of school based clubs taking on the name Global Civis. These clubs will utilize character education techniques while implementing the ideals of Global Civis.

Two central Florida high schools will serve as test locations during the 2010-2011 academic year, they are Winter Park High School & East River High School.

Walk the Path to Citizenship

We at Global Civis understand the difficult process of naturalization and want to do our part to help. Our director, Tom Beard, writes a continuing series of articles that can be found in Latino Link Views. This monthly periodical serves as a printed and on-line vehicle for non profits to share their message with the community.  For more information on this program or Latino Link Views please visit their site at www.latinolinkviews.com.

Amicus Brief

The Amicus Brief Project requires the Amicus Brief Project Team (ABPT) to select a Supreme Court case on the current docket of either the Florida Supreme Court or SCOTUS. Once selected, the facts and legal questions of the case will need to be researched to gain the full understanding required to create an amicus brief.

Former Chief Justice of SCOTUS, Chief William H. Rehnquist defines an amicus curie as "... a phrase that literally means "friend of the court" -- someone who is not a party to the litigation, but who believes that the court's decision may affect its interest." You will be required to write an argument that supports one side of the selected case

The ABPT members will be required to meet after school and during lunch, to complete some serious research, to learn how to write and submit an amicus brief and complete the actual document. If the team is lucky enough to select the appropriate case we will actually submit the brief to the appropriate court.
